Tough Dog Upper Control Arms (UCAs) are engineered to restore a vehicle's suspension and steering geometry to factory specifications following the installation of a lift kit. When a suspension lift is applied to an Independent Front Suspension (IFS) vehicle, the original camber and caster angles can exceed acceptable limits, leading to imprecise steering response due to insufficient caster and uneven or accelerated tire wear caused by increased positive camber. While factory wheel alignment adjustment points can address some of these issues, the suspension geometry will not replicate the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) configuration.

The Tough Dog UCAs feature fixed-length and positioned arms, which provide resilience against misalignment caused by significant off-road impacts. Additionally, these UCAs are designed to mitigate clearance issues that may arise between the strut and the upper control arm during downward travel. The slimline tubular design of Tough Dog UCAs maximizes clearance, ensuring optimal performance in rugged conditions.

Constructed for durability, Tough Dog UCAs utilize end housings forged from 1020 grade steel, with the ball joint housing also crafted in a slimline design to enhance clearance. The heavy-duty, high-flex bushings are designed to operate without the need for lubrication, ensuring longevity even in challenging terrains. The ball joint is made from high-strength Chromoly steel, providing superior strength and reliability.

For convenience in maintenance, all Tough Dog UCAs are compatible with original equipment bushings and ball joint components, allowing for easy servicing if necessary. Key features include a tube design for improved clearance, heavy-duty high-flex bushings, 1020 grade forged housings, and high-strength Chromoly ball joints. These UCAs effectively correct caster and camber angles, providing up to +3.5 degrees of positive caster depending on lift height, and are positioned to accommodate factory mounting of brake and ABS lines.

EXTREME SHOCK FOR EXTREME CONDITIONS

  • Tough Dogs adjustable shocks are built tough for the Aussie outback.
  • As well as the Foam Cell insert to combat shock fade, the 45mm adjustable also incorporate an ABS plastic dust shield as well as an external dust wiper seal to protect the shocks internals from grit which can damage the oil seals around the chrome rod.
  • When fully extended, the shock is at its most vulnerable to damage from side load.
  • The internal bump stop and piston rod guide ensure the shock is supported at the extremes of its travel.
  • Our big bore shocks also have a DU bushing fitted internally to protect the seals from damage caused by side load at full extension.

When fitting a suspension lift to an IFS vehicle the original camber and castor is pushed outside the acceptable limits resulting in vague steering response from lack of castor and uneven or accelerated tyre wear with increased positive camber. While most of this can be adjusted using the factory wheel alignment adjustment points, the geometry of the suspension is not quite the same as OEM.

Tough Dog s UCAs are fixed length and position arms, which guards against the alignment being knocked out of specification by a solid offroad hit.

On top of the alignment issues, clearance problems between the strut and the upper control arm on down travel can also occur.? The slim line tubular design of Tough Dog UCAs create the maximum possible clearance.

Tough Dog UCAs are built tough. The end housings are forged from 1020 grade steel, as is the ball joint housing, which has been specifically crafted with a slim line design to maximise clearance. The bushings are heavy duty, high flex style design requiring no lubrication, for maximum life span in rough terrain. The ball joint is constructed of high strength Chromoly steel.

For ease of servicing, all Tough Dog UCAs are designed to accept original equipment bushings and ball joint parts as spares should you ever need to.
